Over 100 million people around the world are living with stroke aftermath. And there are 12 million new strokes per year – that translates to 1 stroke every 3 seconds.

One quarter of all strokes can be traced to atrial fibrillation, and the number of Afib patients is constantly growing. Most are triggered when a thrombus detaches from the left atrium – or, more precisely, from the left atrial appendage – and then causes a stroke. The treatment of choice is administration of an anticoagulant medication. An alternative is available, however, for patients contraindicated for anticoagulation: deployment of a LAA closure system can significantly reduce strokes and severe bleeding.1,2,3

Stroke prevention 
Developed to prevent thrombus formation where it occurs most often in Afib patients: in the left atrial appendage.2

 

Avoiding antithrombotic medications 
Following LAA closure, patients can usually stop taking DOACs or VKAs shortly after implantation. This reduces the risk of severe bleeding and side effects.4

 

Hybrid design
The nitinol frame has 2 rows of hooks for secure fixation and BioCover to leverage healing.5,6
